Main Theme: The Next Decade of Energy-Driven Co-design Innovation
The Energy Consequences of Information (ECI) Workshop 2027 invites researchers to submit contributions addressing the fundamental science and emerging technologies that will define the future of energy-efficient computing and information processing. As demands from artificial intelligence, scientific computing, communications, sensing, and edge systems continue to grow, understanding the energy cost of computation—and discovering new pathways to reduce it—has become a central challenge across disciplines.
ECI 2027 will bring together a diverse community spanning neuroscience, materials science, device physics, circuits, computer architecture, algorithms, photonics, quantum computing, bioengineering, and high-performance computing. The workshop will emphasize bold, cross-disciplinary ideas that connect fundamental limits to practical systems and that reveal new approaches to performance, efficiency, adaptability, and scalability.
We welcome submissions on a broad range of topics, including probabilistic computing, learning algorithms, spiking neural networks, bio-engineered/neuromorphic sensing and computation, photonics, novel and ferroelectric devices, neuroscience-inspired architectures, quantum computing, full-stack co-design, scientific computing, and abstracts addressing the thermodynamic, physical, and architectural limits of computation. Contributions may include theoretical advances, experimental results, modeling and simulation, hardware demonstrations, benchmarking studies, and application-driven system perspectives.
ECI 2027 particularly encourages work that bridges traditional disciplinary boundaries, identifies new performance-per-watt opportunities through advances in the co-design of devices, algorithms, and architectures for next-generation computing.
